Why is being anointed with oil so symbolic throughout scripture? What does it mean to be anointed by the power and presence of God? Think about what oil does. It smears, soaks, penetrates, and even heals. It gets everywhere, and it’s difficult to get off. That’s us when we are anointed by God — covered by His love, Word, and Spirit. Just like He wants to pour it all on us, He wants us to pour it all on Him.
