Songs of Praise is excited to launch the competition to find the best amateur gospel singer in the UK. So if you think you’ve got what it takes to win the title then we want to hear from you.
If you lead worship in your church, sing solos in a gospel choir, or just have a passion for gospel music this could be your chance to get the good news message out there.
In this celebration of Gospel music five amateur soloists will be chosen to take part in the televised semi-final. They will each perform in front of our panel of celebrity judges who will select three soloists to go through to the final. From here one soloist will be chosen to become The Gospel Singer of the Year and will receive the coveted trophy as well as £1,000 to help them progress their singing career.
To enter, soloists will need to submit two videos of themselves singing a Gospel song of their choice and Amazing Grace. All the information on how to enter, including the online application form, terms and conditions and privacy notice, can be found on the Songs of Praise website
Entries must be received by Sunday 15th August 2021 so do not delay. The recording of the competition finals takes place over one day on Monday 18th October in Manchester. The programme will be hosted by gospel expert Mark De Lisser. Mark is an experienced vocal coach who will be there to encourage all the finalists. Mark said “I know there are some amazing singers of Gospel music in this country, and I need them to get involved to showcase their incredible talent and more over to praise the name of God. Get involved, do it now!”
The competition is a wonderful platform for gospel singers to showcase their talents to a huge audience on BBC One. The programmes’ Musical Director, Ken Burton said: “This is a great opportunity for singers to get your message out there, and to show the world what you do so that they can be blessed by your song.”
